§ 2-50. Position created; nature of position; term of office.

  • There shall be a county attorney appointed by majority vote of the board of county commissioners whose term of office shall be at the pleasure of the board. The county attorney shall supervise the office of county attorney, including assistant county attorneys and support staff. The county attorney may employ, suspend, discharge or remove assistant county attorneys and support staff subject to budget approval and pursuant to the county personnel rules. Special counsel, as may be required, may only be appointed upon approval of the board. The county attorney shall report and be responsible directly to the board of county commissioners. The office of the county attorney shall provide legal services to the board of county commissioners, and such other county departments, boards, agencies, and commissions as directed by the board of county commissioners. The county attorney shall be admitted to practice law in the state. The compensation of the county attorney shall be established by the board of county commissioners.
