§ 8-50. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Automatic dialers. An electrically operated instrument composed of sensory apparatus and related hardware which automatically sends a pre-recorded voice alarm.

    Central alarm station. A central location or place where alarm monitoring capabilities are installed for more than one system.

    False alarm. The activation of a fire alarm or fire alarm system or device either by the owner, lessee or employee of the premises where the alarm is located, or fire alarm device malfunction where such alarm results in a response by the fire department and where an emergency situation does not exist.

    Fire alarm or fire system or device. Any fire-detecting device, which upon being activated is capable of transmitting an alarm or signal, whether by sound transmission through the air, by wire, or by whatever means to a point off the premises where installed.

    Fire alarm company. Any business, firm, corporation or other commercial entity which is in the business of owning, operating, maintaining, installing, leasing or selling any fire alarm system, device or any central alarm system.
